MISSION
Follow the lead of the Design & Development Director and fellow draftspeople to design projects and produce shop drawings. You are the on-location partner to the drafter, and are experienced with Microvellum.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow The Lead Of The D&D Director To Design New Projects:
Use Microvellum to draft the client’s and Rowan’s vision for the project
Adhere to Rowan’s workflow and standards
Follow directions and give input on design
Redlines: Address redlines from the D&D director and client in each design iteration
Shop Drawing Preparation: Convert the project design into shop drawings which adhere to rowans standards
Shop Drawing Revisions: Address change orders or corrections efficiently
Participate In Design Meetings: Record all the information received in a design meeting in an organized way
Site Measure With The Shop Foreman and D&D Director: Accurately represent field conditions on site in the design and shop drawings
Special Order Specification: Properly spec out and document Rowan-provided special order items, so that they can be ordered by the project manager
Hours Tracking:
Accurately record time spent on projects
Create accurate project reports
Project Tracking:
Update and maintain project overview documents

On-the-job training
ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 2 years of experience with Microvellum
Minimum of 2 years experience working as a full time draftsperson at a cabinet shop or architecture firm
BONUS: CNC programming knowledge.
Fluent in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Mail)
A relevant portfolio of professional work to show
Experience measuring field conditions on job sites
Experience communicating with clients, vendors and subcontractors
Excellent written communication skills
Must have some sort of background in woodworking, building construction, engineering or fabrication. Professional experience preferred but not required.
High level organizational and critical thinking skills
Experience in bench carpentry , cabinetmaking or furniture making is beneficial
Willingness to work under pressure and go the extra mile
Reliable: tardiness is not tolerated
Excellent references
Reliable transportation, live within commuting distance to the shop, located in Kingston, NY
1 DAY TRIAL
The applicant will be invited to spend a day with our ‘design lead’ to demonstrate their ability / competence drafting. The trial will be casually supervised. The pass/fail threshold is not solely based on technical ability but also on the candidate’s willingness to ask questions, ability to troubleshoot problems, the speed at which they learn and implement a new skill, etc. etc.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5 years of professional cabinet shop and installation experience
Must own a suite of personal cabinet-making tools
Must have a safe working knowledge of shop machinery such as jointers, routers, sliding table saws, panel saws, etc
Must know your basic woodworking-related math
Must be willing to adhere to Rowan Woodwork’s best-known methods of fabrication
Must be able to produce finished product from shop drawings. This includes, but is not limited to: creating material & hardware take-offs, generating cultists, breaking down grain-sequenced sheet goods, milling hardwoods, joinery, sanding, etc
Must be able to install millwork on location
Must be willing to travel and lodge with the team for extended periods when installing projects out of the region
BONUS: Finishing skills
Must have excellent references
Must have reliable transportation and live within commuting distance to the shop
1 DAY TRIAL
The applicant will be asked to fabricate a shaker door from rough-sawn maple.
The trial will be casually supervised. The pass/fail threshold is not solely based on technical ability but also on the candidate’s willingness to ask questions, troubleshoot problems and work safely.
