Craftsmanship Meets Collaboration at Hideaway Lane

Designer Bill Cornwell of Wildmere Properties brought us to Hideaway Lane to reimagine a beloved aesthetic with modern functionality.

We were tasked with creating two handcrafted desks and a bookcase to blend seamlessly into their multi-purpose space. The design challenge was to emulate desks the clients had in their city dwelling, while infusing a sense of novelty. Inspired by the old, but make it new.

For materials, we selected a mix of solid and veneer core walnut with a dead flat finish to enhance the wood's clean, natural beauty.

The bookcase had to be deep enough to accommodate various art books, while keeping with the overall aesthetic. This shelf depth led to a smalll installation mishap when the bookshelf didn’t fit up the stairwell (whoops, Brady!). Luckily we prepare for these sorts of things, and had the bookshelf installed in no time.

Collaboration played a crucial role in this project. The clients were excellent partners in design reviews as we worked to strike the perfect balance between familiarity and innovation. We also worked closely with the general contractor to coordinate steel installations and locate outlets, a part of our service offering we don’t often get to showcase.

Hideaway Lane is a testament to Rowan’s artistry, craftsmanship, and collaborative nature. Our meticulous attention to material selection and iterative design process resulted in two desks and a bookcase that fulfilled the client's functional needs while exuding beauty, sophistication, and a sense of true personalization.
